Updates All Around

It seems there's been a backlog of story updates during my (extended) period of busyness and recovery. Here's the most notable stuff:

MEDHI KHAZEMI, the Iranian teenager who was in danger of being deported back to Iran where he was set to be executed has been granted asylum by the UK. It's nice to see that the limeys came to their senses.

The CALIFORNIA MARRIAGE EQUALITY RULING came under threat when right-wing activists (and the attorneys general of several conservative states) asked the court for a stay (In other words, they asked the court to delay the date that their ruling would become effective). The court denied the stay, ensuring that same-sex couples from around the country could begin marrying in California on June 17. However, a measure has been approved for the November ballot that would amend the California Constitution to prohibit same-sex nuptials. Most papers are reporting that a slight majority of Californians support the amendment at this time.
