The Netherland's supreme court ruled today to deport Mehdi Kazemi to Britain. Because Kazemi has been outed as gay to the Iranian government, he faces almost certain execution if he is forced to return there. Kazemi has applied for asylum in both Britain and The Netherlands, but since Kazemi applied to Britain first, Dutch authorities claim they are obligated by the Dublin Treaty to return the Iranian teenager to British custody.Britain has already refused to give Kazemi asylum there. Kazemi's last chance to avoid execution is to appeal British immigration official's refusal of his asylum request.
Kazemi is reportedly so fearful that he will be sent back to Iran and hanged, the he has been placed on suicide watch in his Rotterdam holding cell.
